In July of 2021 Governor Ned Lamont signed into law the new highway usage tax which will impose a fee on large commercial trucks weighing in excess of 26000 pounds with the highest fee for trucks weighing in excess of 80000 pounds.  The purpose of the law is to raise revenues to repair the damages caused to our highways by the large commercial trucks.  House Representative Sean Scanlon D of Guilford said " those who use the road and do the most damage, we are going to ask them to pay" to justify the new law.
