Monsanto the giant agribusiness is being sued by individuals who have been exposed to its Roundup weed killer in commercial applications.
The main ingredient in Roundup weed killer is glyphosate that unfortunately has been linked to non-hodgkins lymphoma.
Many of these cases being brought against Monsanto involve commercial usage of Roundup weed killer thus many of the Plaintiffs are commercial gardeners, landscapers, farmers and groundskeepers.
In a recent lawsuit against Monsanto, a San Francisco jury awarded a former school groundskeeper who died from non-hodgkins lymphoma the sum of $289 million dollars(39 million in compensatory damages and 250 million in punitive damages). The Judge in this matter after reviewing the verdict reduced the punitive damages to 39 million and kept the compensatory damages at 39 million for a total reduced verdict of $78 million dollars. The Judge also upheld the finding from the jury that Monsanto failed to warn the public of the health risks of using roundup weed killer.
