St. Patrick’s Day Safety Tips for Connecticut Drivers and Pedestrians

Posted by Lauren Beck | Mar 13, 2026 | 0 Comments

St. Patrick's Day is a fun and festive holiday celebrated throughout Connecticut with parades, gatherings, and time with friends and family. While the holiday brings people together, it is also one of the busiest nights of the year on the roads.

Unfortunately, increased celebrations can also lead to an increase in accidents, particularly those involving impaired driving and pedestrian injuries.

Law enforcement agencies across Connecticut often increase patrols around St. Patrick's Day to watch for drivers who may be under the influence. Even so, accidents still occur when drivers make poor decisions or fail to pay attention to pedestrians and other vehicles.

If you plan to celebrate this St. Patrick's Day, a few simple steps can help keep everyone safe:

• Arrange for a designated driver or rideshare if you plan to drink • Avoid distractions while driving • Be especially cautious in areas where bars and restaurants are located • Watch for pedestrians crossing streets, especially at night

Pedestrians should also take precautions, such as using crosswalks, staying visible to drivers, and avoiding walking alone late at night when possible.

If you or a loved one is injured in a motor vehicle or pedestrian accident because of someone else's negligence, it is important to seek medical attention and understand your legal rights.

St. Patrick's Day should be a time to celebrate—not a time when someone's life is changed by a preventable accident. Taking a few precautions can help ensure the holiday remains safe for everyone.
