Choosing only the minimum required auto insurance coverage may save money on your premium, but it can leave you financially exposed after a serious accident.
If another driver causes an accident and has little or no insurance, recovering compensation for your injuries can become much more difficult. Even if you have uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage, your recovery may be limited by the amount of coverage you purchased.
The same problem can arise when your vehicle is damaged. If you do not carry collision coverage and an uninsured driver damages your car, you may have to pay for the repairs or replacement yourself.
The lesson is simple: minimum coverage does not necessarily provide maximum protection. Before an accident happens, review your automobile insurance policy and make sure your liability, uninsured/underinsured motorist, and collision coverages adequately protect you and your family.
